WE ARE SUNRISE CORVALLIS

We are a hub of young people from across Corvallis and in the surrounding area, working to create meaningful change through direct action, policy, and standing with other movements for change.

Land Acknowledgement

We owe this moment in time to all the generations that have come before us. Our work, which is the work of justice, cannot exist without truth. We begin today by acknowledging the truth that the land we stand upon now is the sacred ancestral lands of the Marys River or Ampinefu bands of the Kalapuya, who have honored, stewarded, cared for, and lived off of these lands for millennia. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855, Kalapuya people were forcibly removed and disenfranchised from their homelands to reservations in Western Oregon. These harms have not been redressed. It is impossible to separate our current climate crisis  from the foundation of colonialism, white supremacy, and genocide on which Oregon and the United States were built and continue to be built, and it is imperative that decolonization and Indigenous liberation are foregrounded in our collective struggles to achieve climate justice. Today, living descendants of the Kalapuya people are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians. We honor their elders, past and present. Please consider the ways in which colonial migration, settlement, violence, conquest and displacement have impacted people past and present, and to reflect upon the historical legacies of the lands we currently occupy.

Mission Statement

We are part of the youth-led climate revolution here in Corvallis. We are helping build community and radical hope for our futures through empowering youth and fighting for systemic climate and environmental justice. We are constantly growing and adapting, informed by science, compassion, and all the generations of activists that came before us.

Sunrise Corvallis is part of the National Sunrise Movement, a community of youth committed to winning the Green New Deal. While the Sunrise Movement tends to focus on national policy, we've chosen to focus locally.
